this collection began with viewing the cherry blossoms at the dumbarton oaks estate in washington dc. after a winter laid up with a broken ankle it was a joy to walk every day in early spring and experience the explosion of flowers and leaves and returning sunshine. hanami - literally 'flower viewing' in japanese - is the celebration of spring's reawakening and a meditation on its temporal passing.
